Hip Chicks Do Wine

HipChicks LogoEstablished in 1990 by Laurie Lewis and Renee Neely, Hip Chicks do Wine is a boutique urban winery in Portland. We are currently the oldest working winery in the Portland city limits and 100% woman owned. All the wine is processed, fermented, aged, hand bottled and labeled on site in our SE winery.

Hip Chicks do Wine makes fun wine and wine fun, but we are very passionate about the grape and take our winemaking seriously. We handcraft our wines in very small lots with grapes purchased from premium vineyards located in Oregon and Washington.

Hip Chicks produces an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 cases a year. We gently press the grapes with small, half-ton basket presses. We like to experiment with several different yeast strains during fermentation to enhance the wines’ desired fruit flavors.

For reds, we ferment Syrah, Cabernet, Sangiovese, Malbec, Merlot and Pinot Noir in small 4’ x 4’ bins. They are aged one to three years in French and American oak barrels to add a subtle complexity, while keeping the wines balanced with a fruit-forward style. Muscat, Pinot Gris and other whites are fermented in stainless steel to maintain a fresh and fruity style.

All of this allows you to enjoy our wines with dinner tonight—no cellaring required. Hip Chicks do Wine seeks to demystify wine so that you can delight in premium wines in a hip package.
